Massimiliano “Max” Allegri is an Italian football manager best known for managing Italian giants Juventus. Allegri is also a former player who spent his career as a midfielder for several Italian clubs. He is the only coach in the top five European leagues to win four doubles consecutively (between 2015 and 2018), a feat he achieved with Juventus after joining the side in 2014.
Born in Livorno, Italy, Allegri began his playing career in the lower leagues and played for his hometown club before signing for Pescara. He became well-established in the side as a talented and creative midfielder, and in 1992 he helped Giovanni Galeone’s team win promotion to Serie A. He performed impressively for Pescara in Serie A, and after leaving to play for several other Italian sides later returned to the club.
Allegri’s managerial career began in 2003 after hanging up his boots as a player. He began managing smaller sides in Italy before guiding Cagliari to their best Serie A finish for one and half decades, also winning the Panchina d’Oro Award in 2009. Allegri was then snapped up by Milan where he helped the side win their first Serie A title for 7 years before joining Juventus in 2014. Allegri left Juventus with an impressive win percentage of 70.4%, the highest in the history of the club at that time. After a year out of the game, Allegri has said he is ready to return to football management, and has been linked with numerous top jobs all over Europe.
