Passionate and dedicated sportsman Mat Fraser is a former professional CrossFit athlete, who competed between 2014 and 2020. He was the first athlete to win five CrossFitGames titles, winning consecutive titles between 2016 and 2020. Widely considered to be the most dominant and successful individual male athlete in the sport of CrossFit, he now trains others in the sport through his HWPO (Hard Work Pays Off) training programme.
Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Fraser initially started out as a weightlifter, going on to be a junior national champion as well as competing in the Olympic Games. He made his CrossFit debut at the 2014 CrossFit Games, taking second place. He took Silver again the following year, and then in 2016 he took Gold, winning by a record margin, and went on to win the following four CrossFit Games. The 2020 Games marked his final Games, which he also won with a greatly extended record margin of victory (545 points), also setting a record of five consecutive championships wins. After retiring he released his HWPO (Hard Work Pays Off) training programme in 2021.
