About

Pixie Turner began her career as a popular ‘clean eating’ blogger, gaining a significant following on Instagram under the name Plant Based Pixie. Her early content focused on restricted diets, promoting trends such as eating predominantly raw vegetables and eliminating various food groups. During this period, she developed orthorexia, an unhealthy obsession with consuming ‘pure’ or ‘clean’ foods, leading to severe dietary restrictions that included avoiding meat, fish, dairy, eggs, soy, and refined sugar. A pivotal moment occurred during her travels and, critically, after witnessing misinformation spread within the wellness community, particularly concerning topics like vaccination and fraudulent health claims. This prompted her to reassess her own beliefs and the advice she was disseminating to her 122,000 followers.

Following this realization, Turner made a significant career shift, acknowledging her past mistakes and committing to a science-backed approach to nutrition. In 2016, she published a blog post titled “I was wrong, and that’s ok,” which marked a public turning point in her online presence and professional direction. She pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Nutrition, becoming a registered nutritionist (RNutr). In addition, she qualified as a psychotherapist (MBACP), further broadening her expertise to address the psychological aspects of eating behaviors and body image. She authored ‘The Wellness Rebel’ (2018), a book designed to debunk common food myths and promote a healthy, balanced diet without restrictive practices.

Today, Pixie Turner is the director of The Food Therapy Centre, an organization focused on promoting intuitive eating and supporting individuals with disordered eating and body image concerns. She uses her platforms, including her Instagram account and podcast “In Bad Taste,” to provide scientifically accurate nutrition information, advocate against diet culture, and help her audience develop healthier relationships with food. Her work emphasizes that food should be enjoyed without guilt or shame, and she actively works with clients through exposure therapy to challenge and change orthorexic behaviors. Her expertise is frequently sought after for speaking engagements, where she delivers presentations challenging conventional wellness narratives.
