About

Matt McCarthy was born on November 9, 1979, in Providence, Rhode Island, and grew up in Rumford, Rhode Island. He attended St. Margaret’s School and La Salle Academy. He later graduated from Fordham University, where he served as the mascot, The Ram, from 1999 to 2001. After college, McCarthy began performing stand-up comedy and further honed his skills in improvisation at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York. Early in his career, he appeared as a contestant on the television show Cash Cab in 2006, showcasing his early foray into entertainment.

McCarthy has built a significant career in comedy and acting, making appearances on major television programs such as “Conan,” “The Pete Holmes Show,” and “CollegeHumor.com.” He is also recognized as the host of the “We Watch Wrestling Podcast.” His acting credits include co-starring as Carl on the CBS series “How We Roll” and roles in films like “The Other Guys” (2010), “The Angry Birds Movie” (2016) where he voiced Rodney Pig and Acrobat Pig, and the upcoming film “Companion” (2025). McCarthy has also contributed as a writer and producer, notably for the TV series “Bat-Canned” (2023) and as a writer for “The Pete Holmes Show” (2014).

Beyond his acting roles, McCarthy has engaged in extensive sketch comedy. He co-founded Front Page Films, a sketch video group responsible for creating content for brands such as Doritos, Crunch Fitness, CollegeHumor, and Comedy Central. His stand-up comedy has been featured at various festivals, including Just for Laughs, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, and Bonnaroo. He has also performed on television in “Live at Gotham” and “John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show.” From 2011 to 2012 and again from 2016 to 2018, McCarthy worked as a creative writer for the WWE, demonstrating his versatility across different entertainment mediums.
