Matt Papa has a long-standing collaboration with singer-songwriter Matt Boswell, co-writing numerous modern hymns and releasing two joint albums, 'His Mercy Is More' and 'Almost Home'.
Matt Papa served as artist-in-residence for the 2021-22 academic year, giving lectures, leading university worship, and promoting the university at his concerts and conferences.

Matt Papa, born in Gainesville, Georgia, developed an interest in music from a young age. His spiritual journey began in his teenage years, guided by his youth pastor, which eventually led him into Christian music. Papa started his career as a worship leader at Summit Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, serving on staff for four years before pursuing studies at Southeastern Seminary. He also held the position of worship and arts director at Christ Covenant Church in Atlanta prior to his full-time career as a musician and songwriter.
Papa’s musical career officially began in 2005. His album ‘Your Kingdom Come’ in 2009 achieved notable recognition, charting at #46 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and #33 on the Top Heatseekers chart. This marked an early milestone in his recording career. In 2014, he authored the book ‘Look and Live’. A significant turning point in his career was initiating a collaboration with Matt Boswell in 2009, co-writing hymns such as ‘Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery’ and ‘Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor.’ Their combined efforts led to the release of their first album, ‘His Mercy Is More – The Hymns Of Matt Boswell and Matt Papa,’ in 2019. This album debuted at #1 on Nielsen’s Christian Praise and Worship Chart and #3 on the Billboard Christian Contemporary Chart, earning nominations for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year and Inspirational Album of the Year at the 2020 Dove Awards.
In 2021, Papa served as artist-in-residence at Cedarville University for the 2021-22 academic year, giving lectures, leading worship, and promoting the university. He also held a similar role at Marco Presbyterian Church. That same year, he and his wife Lauren co-wrote the song ‘Almost Home,’ and he released his second collaborative album with Matt Boswell, ‘Almost Home – The Hymns Of Matt Boswell And Matt Papa (Vol. 2).’ His contributions to Christian music continue to be recognized, with the album ‘Our God Will Go Before Us – The Hymns of Matt Boswell and Matt Papa, Vol 3’ receiving a nomination for Inspirational Album of the Year at the 2024 Dove Awards.
