Big time American professional volleyball player Matthew Anderson is a legendary hitter with a decorated career representing the United States and numerous international clubs. The 208 cm tall hitter from Buffalo, NY sprung onto the courts in college playing for the Penn State Nittany Lions from 2006-2008; he later joined the United States men’s national volleyball team in 2007. Leaving college in 2008, he signed a contract with the Cheonan Hyundai Capital Skywalkers competing in his first major international match taking home silver at the 2008/2009 South Korean Championship; Anderson ranked top 13th volleyball player in Penn State history.
By 2012, Anderson participated in his first of five CEV Champions League matches with Russian volleyball club, Zenit-Kazan, winning bronze and 4 back-to-back gold medals. He also led his club to 7 gold trophies at the Russian Cup and Super Cups consecutively from 2012-2018 by which time he had also completed three FIVB Club World Championship taking home two silver medals and one gold medal. In 2016, he joined Team USA in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro taking home bronze.
To date Anderson has been named player of the year in the United States three times and MVP multiple times within several NORCECA Championships, Russian Leagues, NCAA Divisions, and FIVB competitions. With 21 gold achievements, 8 silvers, and 7 bronze, Anderson continues to dominate as one of the strongest spikers in the world. He is set to compete in the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
