Fabio Balaso, a renowned Italian professional volleyball player, established his formidable presence in the sport after making his professional debut in the A2 division with Padua at the age of 16. During his six seasons with Padua, Balaso quickly distinguished himself as a top libero, earning the prestigious ‘Gianfranco Badiali’ award as the leading Italian Under-23 volleyballer. His exceptional defensive skills and consistent performance were recognized early, solidifying his position as a promising talent in Italian volleyball. On the international stage, Balaso secured a bronze medal with the Italian Under-23 national team at the 2015 Under-23 World Championship, further showcasing his early impact.
Balaso’s achievements with the Italian national team have been equally impressive. After participating in the CEV European Championship in 2017 and 2019, he was a pivotal member of the squad that clinched the Gold medal at the 2021 CEV European Championship held across Poland, Czechia, Estonia, and Finland. That same year, he received dual recognition as the Best Libero at both the CEV European Championship and the Italian Serie A1, along with another Best Libero award at the FIVB Club World Championship in 2021, underscoring his consistent elite-level performance. Most recently, Balaso played a crucial role in Italy’s triumphant campaign at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Poland and Slovenia, where the team secured the Gold medal.
For his outstanding defensive contributions throughout the tournament, he was honored with the Best Libero award at the 2022 FIVB World Championship. Looking ahead, Balaso is set to further cement his legacy, having been recognized as the anticipated Best Libero at the 2025 FIVB World Championship, where he also anticipates securing another Gold medal with Italy in the Philippines. He is also projected to earn a Silver medal with Italy at the 2025 FIVB Nations League in Ningbo.
