Matthew William Lawrence was born on February 11, 1980, in Abington, Pennsylvania, to Donna Lawrence (née Shaw) and Joe Lawrence Sr. He is the middle son of three brothers, Joey Lawrence and Andrew Lawrence, both of whom also became actors. The family adopted “Lawrence” as their stage surname from his older brother Joey’s middle name. Matthew began his career in the entertainment industry at an early age, booking two national commercials by age four. His early passion for the arts led his family to relocate to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue acting while attending high school and later the University of Southern California, excelling in biology and the sciences.

Lawrence rose to prominence in the mid-1980s and early 1990s. He played Danny Carrington in “Dynasty” and appeared in the 1993 film “Mrs. Doubtfire” alongside Robin Williams and Sally Field. He also starred in the mid-1990s television series “Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad.” A significant part of his career involved working with his brothers; they starred together in the series “Brotherly Love” from 1995 to 1997. Following this, he joined the cast of “Boy Meets World” in 1997, playing the character Jack Hunter until 2000. He continued to take on diverse roles, including in the film “The Hot Chick” (2002) and guest appearances on shows like “CSI: Miami.”

In recent years, Lawrence has reprised past roles and ventured into new projects. He returned as Jack Hunter in “Girl Meets World” Season 2 (2015) and showcased his musical talent as a contestant on “The Masked Singer” in 2025. In February 2023, Matthew, Joey, and Andrew Lawrence launched the “Brotherly Love” podcast, which re-examines episodes of their sitcom.
