Chef and internet personality Matty Matheson is one of Canada’s best-known culinary experts, famous for shows such as Dead Set on Life and It’s Suppertime! He is the former executive chef of Toronto restaurant Parts & Labour, and us the author of the New York Times bestselling Matty Matheson: A Cookbook.
Canadian-born Matheson attended Humber College’s cooking programme, and later worked at Le Sélect Bistro under master chef Rang Nguyen. Here he learned the techniques of French cooking, later worked at distinguished restaurant La Palette, and in 2010 established eatery Parts & Labour in the hip Toronto neighbourhood of Parkdale. He began his presenting work in 2014, launching the web series Keep it Canada with Matty Matheson, and narrating an episode of VICE: Essentials, before fronting three series of Viceland’s culinary travel series Dead Set on Life. The series earned rave reviews and two nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards, including a nod for Matheson himself in the Best Host category.
In 2017, Matheson hosted, co-wrote and served as executive producer on Viceland series It’s Suppertime, and he has since hosted the YouTube web series Just a Dash, and Matty and Benny Eat Out America alongside musician Benny Blanco. Besides his culinary work, he has guest-starred on popular CBC sitcom Workin’ Moms, and has appeared on talk shows including Kimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Call with Carson Daly, The Social, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
