Melissa Fuchs Powell

Melissa Fuchs Powell was born on January 27, 1995, in Provo, Utah. Her involvement in volleyball started early, influenced by her parents, Ray and Val Fuchs, who both played professional volleyball in Brazil, and her older siblings who also played collegiately. She attended Pleasant Grove High School in Pleasant Grove, UT, where she was a distinguished four-year starter and letterwinner, leading her team to the 5A Utah State Championship. During her high school career, she was named a PrepVolleyball.com All-American, nominated for national player of the year, received the Gatorade Player of the Year award for Utah, and was included on the 2012 All-American Under Armour Watch List. In her senior year, she recorded 355 kills, 235 digs, and 32 service aces, and was honored as MVP of the state tournament and district MVP.

She began her collegiate career playing indoor volleyball at Central Michigan for one season, before transferring to Houston Baptist University where she played for three years. It was during her time at Houston Baptist that she started playing both indoor and beach volleyball. After completing her indoor eligibility, she returned to Utah and played her final season of beach volleyball at the University of Utah in the spring of 2018. Following her collegiate career, Powell embarked on a professional beach volleyball career, competing in various national and international tournaments. She made her professional debut in May 2018 at a tournament in Austin, Texas, partnering with Jessica Wooten. She has since partnered with other professional players, including Victoria Dennis and Allison Spurrier, and has competed on the FIVB World Tour and in different North American professional leagues. Powell has achieved a best finish of 5th place internationally on four occasions and aims to improve her professional rankings.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Melissa Fuchs Powell is an entrepreneur. She founded Beach Box, a training facility in Pleasant Grove, Utah, which opened in June 2025 (as per reporting) and offers programs focused on movement, skill development, and teamwork for volleyball players. She also launched her own clothing brand, MelPraia, and developed an agility training app called ‘Hopp Homie’ specifically for volleyball players. Powell’s career trajectory is marked by a consistent drive to pursue her athletic goals, including her stated ambition to compete in the Olympic Games, reflecting her competitive spirit and dedication to volleyball.
