Michael Beasley is an American pro basketball player currently starring for Cangrejeros de Santurce in the top-tier of Puerto Rican basketball. Since making his professional debut in 2008, he has played for several major NBA clubs, including the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, L.A. Lakers, and Houston Rockets. He has also enjoyed great success in the Chinese CBA league, winning various all-star and MVP honours as well as winning the CBA title with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in 2019.
Beasley’s professional success is built on the foundations of his phenomenal high school and college basketball careers. He initially played for the PG Jaguars in the Amateur Athletics Association league, winning numerous national championships with them. He was also chosen to represent the United States at Under-18 level, becoming one of their most successful players ever, and was selected for the McDonald’s All-American team, winning their All-Star game’s MVP Award. Unsurprisingly, he was voted the number-one basketball prospect in the country. His college career took him to Kansas State. During his time there, he became one of only two players in the team’s history to win Associated Press All-American honours. He also won an armful of Freshman of the Year awards too. Declaring himself for the NBA Draft after just two years of college, he was the second overall pick of the 2008 Draft, being snapped up by the Miami Heat. Within a fortnight, he’d made his NBA debut.
Since then, he has rarely been out of the limelight for both his on and off-court activities, but his place as one of the modern game’s most illustrious and talented players is beyond doubt.
