Michael Rimmer is a three-time Olympian and European 800m silver medallist who has successfully transitioned his expertise to support aspiring athletes through non-profit initiatives. After a decorated junior career breaking numerous school records and winning national titles at various age levels, Michael Rimmer transitioned into senior competition, making an immediate impact by winning the AAA Championships at 800m in 2006. That same year, he earned an 8th place finish at the European Championships in Gothenburg. In 2007, Rimmer secured second place at his first European Cup in Munich and reached the semi-finals of the World Championships in Osaka, establishing himself as a formidable presence on the international middle-distance running circuit for Great Britain & N.I.
and England. Rimmer made his Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, qualifying for the 800m semi-finals and finishing sixth despite battling illness. He continued his high-level performance at major international events, including the World Championships in Berlin in 2009. A significant milestone was achieved on August 29, 2010, when he set his personal best time of 1:43.89 in the 800 Metres in Rieti, Italy, placing him 6th on the UK all-time list.
Additionally, he achieved a personal best of 1:46.55 in the 800 Metres Short Track in 2013, was a European Team Championships silver medallist, and placed in the top 8 at the Commonwealth Games. Beyond his competitive achievements, Michael Rimmer has channeled his expertise into supporting the next generation of athletes. Alongside his partner Eilish McColgan, he co-founded ‘Giving Back to Track,’ a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering young talent. This initiative specifically focuses on female athletes and community athletics, working to alleviate financial burdens associated with sport and promote broader participation.
