Michelle Morgan is an actor as well as an up and coming director, having started her interest in acting with work in, and a degree in, theatre. Morgan went on to star in the long-running hit CBC series Heartland, which has a staggering amount of critical acclaim. This saw the actor play the beloved character of Lou Flemming, the prodigal daughter who returns to Heartland after her mother’s dramatic death. Heartland is known for it’s heartwarming approach to the multi-generational saga, capturing a wide audience.
Morgan went on from acting to pursue her love of directing, writing and the filmmaking process – creating her own company Medano Film. Medano Film aims to inspire through its work, drawing people together through empathy and kindness. The company, and therefore Morgan’s, directorial debut was a short film called Mi Madre, My Father and was selected by Telefilm for the Not Short on Talent at Cannes for the iconic Cannes Film Festival short film corner. Morgan has also directed episodes of the CBC digital series Hudson, which is a spin off of Heartland, as well as a short romantic-comedy film Save Yourself.
Morgan’s most recent project is developing her first feature film – a post apocalyptic western titled The Plains. The actor and director was selected to join the Women in the Director’s Chair, Story and Leadership Program due to her burgeoning talent shown in her own work and her work creating Medano Film, where she will develop this feature. Morgan is also a huge advocate for human rights, being an ambassador for many domestic violence victim support associations and organisations.
