Misty May-Treanor

Misty May-Treanor cemented her legacy as one of the most successful beach volleyball players globally, securing three Olympic gold medals and numerous tournament victories throughout her unparalleled career. May-Treanor was further recognized as the nation’s top collegiate female athlete, receiving the Honda-Broderick Cup in 1998–99. Prior to her collegiate success, she led Newport Harbor High School to state volleyball championships in 1992 and 1994, earning the distinction of USA Today’s best high school girls’ volleyball player in 1994. May-Treanor launched her professional career on the AVP tour in 1999, which included a stint with the U.S.

Women’s National Volleyball Team, before transitioning to beach volleyball and making her Olympic debut at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with partner Holly McPeak, finishing fifth. A pivotal moment arrived in 2001 when May-Treanor teamed with Kerri Walsh Jennings, forging a partnership that would become one of beach volleyball’s most dominant duos. Together, they claimed their first FIVB tour championship in 2002. The team achieved an undefeated domestic season in 2003, securing eight tournament wins and an impressive 39–0 match record.

Their incredible run concluded triumphantly at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, where they secured their third consecutive Olympic gold medal, a feat that underscored their sustained excellence over more than a decade. Following this historic victory, May-Treanor retired from competitive play in 2012, concluding an illustrious career. Her enduring impact on the sport was formally recognized in 2016 when Misty May-Treanor was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Her career, marked by unprecedented success and a relentless pursuit of excellence, continues to inspire athletes worldwide, highlighting her exceptional contributions to the sport of beach volleyball and her legacy as an Olympic icon.
