Mitch Moffit, born on March 27, 1988, is a Canadian science communicator and co-creator of the highly successful YouTube channel, AsapSCIENCE. He met his partner, Gregory Brown, while both were studying biology at the University of Guelph. Their shared passion for science and education led them to establish AsapSCIENCE in May 2012. The channel was developed with the goal of educating, entertaining, and inspiring a love for science among a wide audience by producing engaging videos that explain scientific concepts through animated whiteboard drawings and voice-over narration. Mitch is responsible for the voice-overs and musical compositions for their videos, contributing to the channel’s distinctive style.
Under Moffit’s co-leadership, AsapSCIENCE has grown significantly, accumulating over 10 million subscribers by 2025 and generating over 2 billion views across its videos. A notable milestone for the channel was the release of their first book, “AsapSCIENCE: Answers to the World’s Weirdest Questions, Most Persistent Rumors, and Unexplained Phenomena,” in March 2015. The channel has also engaged in numerous collaborations with other prominent science communicators and personalities, including Jake Roper of Vsauce3, Bill Nye, and IISuperwomanII (Lilly Singh), expanding its reach and impact within the digital education landscape. In 2014, Moffit and Brown publicly shared their relationship, aiming to provide visible role models for young LGBTQ+ individuals interested in science.
Beyond his work with AsapSCIENCE, Moffit participated as a HouseGuest in “Big Brother Canada 4” in February 2016, placing 11th and becoming the first member of the Final Jury. His contributions to science communication were further recognized on December 7, 2023, when he and Gregory Brown were jointly invested with the Meritorious Service Medal (Civil Division) by the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon. This honor acknowledged their effective use of explanations, solid facts, and humor to educate the internet generation about scientific topics.
