Molly Yeh was born on May 22, 1989, in Glenview, Illinois. She was raised in a household with a Jewish mother and a Chinese father, influences that would later appear in her culinary work. Yeh attended Glenbrook South High School and the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory, where she was involved in percussion ensembles. These ensembles achieved notable success, winning gold medals in the junior division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in both 2004 and 2005. She moved to New York City to pursue higher education at the Juilliard School, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion in 2011. While at Juilliard, she also contributed as an editorial assistant and writer for “The Juilliard Journal,” demonstrating an early aptitude for written communication.
After completing her music education, Yeh transitioned to a different career path. In 2013, she relocated with her husband-to-be, Nick Hagen, to his family farm near East Grand Forks, North Dakota/Minnesota border. This move marked a significant turning point, as she began to dedicate more time to her food blog. Her blog quickly gained recognition for its artistic food photography and personal narratives detailing her farm life. In 2015, “Saveur” magazine recognized her efforts, naming her “Food Blogger of the Year.” This success led to the publication of her first book, “Molly on the Range: Recipes and Stories from An Unlikely Life on a Farm,” in October 2016. The book, which combined recipes, food photography, and autobiographical elements, received the Judges’ Choice IACP Cookbook Award in 2017.
Her career continued to evolve with her entry into television. In June 2018, Yeh began hosting “Girl Meets Farm” on Food Network, a show filmed at her farm that features Midwestern cuisine infused with her Chinese and Jewish heritage. The show has seen sustained success, with 15 seasons by June 2025. Yeh’s television presence expanded as she hosted additional Food Network competition shows, including “Ben and Jerry’s Clash of the Cones” in 2021 and the eighth season of “Spring Baking Championship” in 2022. Building on her culinary expertise, she opened Bernie’s, a café restaurant in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in 2022, focusing on Midwestern dishes with Scandinavian and Jewish influences. By 2025, she released “Sweet Farm!,” a dessert-focused cookbook.
