Now based in New York, Morgan Keene – a dynamic stage actress – went from memorable turns in local theatre productions of “Next to Normal”, “Annie” and “Grease” to a career-defining role as Katherine Plumber in acclaimed Disney musical Newsies, due to a audition for a previous role so captivating the directors headhunted the memorable Keene two years later. At only the age of 19, Keene left the modest Spokane Civic Theatre behind, ascending to much acclaim on Broadway’s first National tour of the award winning Broadway musical Newsies, which saw Jeff Calhoun gaining a Tony Award for direction and featured music by Alan Menken.
Keene played the leading lady of Katherine, a spunky and strong character, and was hailed with tremendous reviews particularly for her colourful soprano which had the ability to carry through the chorus of men, and caught the loyal fanbase of Newsies attention. Keene has also been noted for both her dancing and acting abilities; after a stunning performance in the darkly thrilling Midwestern Gothic, playing the sensual ingenue Stina, it is clear Keene has a bright future ahead of her.
Having only performed professionally for six years, being only 22, Keene has had the privilege to perform alongside multiple Broadway stars, appear on The Voice alongside pop sensation Katy Perry as a guest judge, and now stars alongside vocal professionals in her most recent project – Disney’s D Cappella. Starring alongside four-time a cappella award winner Antonio Fernadez and featured National Anthem singer Kalen Kelly, Keene is taking her daring and influential voice to new heights in the a capella concert experience, which features reimagined classics by the likes of Lin Manuel Miranda.
