Morgan Keene, born and raised in the Southern United States, is a New York City-based performer with significant experience on the stage. She began working professionally at the age of 17, developing her craft in local theatre productions. Her early career included notable roles in “Next to Normal,” “Annie,” and as Sandy in Spokane Civic Theatre’s sold-out production of “Grease.” At 19, she relocated with her parents to New Jersey to pursue her acting career more intensively, training and auditioning in New York City while being homeschooled and graduating early. She continued to work with mentor Yvonne A.K. Johnson, former executive artistic director of Spokane Civic Theatre.
Keene’s career progressed significantly when she joined the national tour of Disney’s “Newsies.” Initially cast in the ensemble, she later assumed the leading female role of Katherine Plumber, a newspaper reporter covering the 1899 newsboy strike. Her portrayal of Katherine, a strong and independent character, aligned with her personal characteristics and garnered attention. Following her success with “Newsies,” Keene’s musical talents led her to perform with Disney’s DCappella, touring throughout the US, Japan, and Taiwan as a guest artist for orchestral film concerts. She recently completed a successful run as ‘Lucy’ in “Jekyll & Hyde” at White Plains Performing Arts Center. In addition to her stage work, Keene has appeared in screen productions such as “Push the Point” (2020), “DCappella: Part of Your World” (2019), “The Disney Family Singalong” (2020), and “Best in Snow” (2022).
