About

Laurence Tureaud, known professionally as Mr. T, was born on May 21, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in challenging circumstances as the second to youngest of twelve children, his early life fostered a strong sense of responsibility and discipline. He excelled in sports, becoming a football star and a three-time city wrestling champion at Dunbar Vocational High School. His athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to Prairie View A&M University, where he studied for a year before embarking on a career as a bouncer and later a celebrity bodyguard. During this period, he developed his distinctive persona, including his Mohawk haircut and extensive gold jewelry, which he maintained throughout his public career.

Mr. T’s career took a significant turn in 1982 when he was cast as Clubber Lang, the antagonist in “Rocky III.” His performance garnered attention, leading to his most iconic role as Sergeant Bosco “B.A.” Baracus in the television series “The A-Team,” which aired from 1983 to 1987. “The A-Team” solidified his status as a cultural icon, and he became known for his catchphrase, “I pity the fool!” Beyond acting, Mr. T was involved in professional wrestling, notably partnering with Hulk Hogan at the first WrestleMania in 1985 and competing against Roddy Piper in WrestleMania 2 in 1986. His career also included voice acting roles in animated series like “Mister T” (1983), and later, “The Simpsons” (2003) and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” (2009).

In 1995, Mr. T was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma, a form of cancer, which he successfully overcame by 2001. This personal challenge led to a period of lower public visibility, primarily engaging in commercial work and occasional talk show appearances. He staged a comeback in the mid-22000s, including his reality show “I Pity the Fool” on TV Land in 2006, and continued to make appearances in various media, demonstrating the enduring appeal of his public image.
