Myrka Bárbara Dellanos was born on May 27, 1965, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She pursued her education at the University of Miami, graduating in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Dellanos began her prominent career in television in 1992 as a co-host for Univision’s news program, “Primer Impacto.” She continued in this role for over a decade, becoming a recognized figure in Spanish-language media. During her tenure, she received multiple accolades, including being named “Star of the Year” by “People en Español” readers in 2004.
Throughout her career, Dellanos has been involved in various high-profile initiatives. She hosted Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations at the White House and was appointed by U.S. President George W. Bush as a member of the Freedom Corps, a group dedicated to promoting charitable giving. Her work extended beyond broadcasting to include social service and humanitarian efforts, focusing on aid for orphaned children and victims of domestic abuse. In 2013, she became a spokesperson for “I Am Second,” a movement providing spiritual inspiration. That same year, after an eight-year break from broadcast journalism, Dellanos returned to television as a host and contributor for Estrella TV’s news-magazine “En la Mira.” She has also authored several books, including “Succeed and Be Happy: Things I Learned Thanks to God, My Mom, and Life.”
In recent years, Dellanos has continued to appear on television. March 2022 saw her begin cohosting “La Mesa Caliente” on Telemundo, a round-table show. She also served as a guest judge for the 71st edition of Miss Universe in 2023, held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Her professional journey includes recognition with three ACE Awards and two Emmy Awards for Reporting and Writing. She has also been honored as an Outstanding Young Woman of America and was named “Person of the Year” by the Organization of Ibero-American Journalists in 2003, and Hispanic of the Year by the Direct Marketing Association of America in 2001. Additionally, she holds the role of Goodwill Ambassador for the International Rescue Committee.
