American political consultant and commentator Paul Begala is most well known for serving as Bill Clinton’s former adviser. Begala was the campaign’s main strategist in 1992, when Clinton and Gore won 33 states and became the first Democrats to hold the White House in twelve years. He managed politics, policy, and communications while serving as the President’s advisor in the Clinton White House. Begala, along with James Carville, a fellow Clinton aide, rose to national fame as a member of the political consulting duo Carville and Begala.
From 1999 to 2000, Begala co-hosted the political discussion programme Equal Time on MSNBC, and from 2002 to 2005, he co-hosted Crossfire on CNN. He currently makes frequent appearances as a Democratic pundit on CNN. He teaches public policy as an Affiliated Professor at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy. In the 2008 presidential primaries, Begala supported Hillary Clinton from the beginning. But once Hillary withdrew from the contest, he started to support Barack Obama. Begala worked as a consultant for Freddie Mac, a relationship that came to an end in September 2008.
Begala serves on the board of directors of Democratic Majority for Israel, a group that works to strengthen ties between the United States and Israel and whose political action committee, DMFI PAC, sponsored attack ads against Senator Bernie Sanders’ bid for president in the run-up to the 2020 election. Begala has stated when reflecting on his career and the political landscape in the United States that a “The presidential race is like a movie. Prior to being scored and tracked, it never comes together “.
