About

Victor James Santiago Jr., known professionally as N.O.R.E. and Noreaga, was born on September 6, 1977, in Queens, New York City. He was raised in the LeFrak City apartment complex, where he grew up in apartment 5E. His musical career began in 1995 under the pseudonym Noreaga as one half of the East Coast hip-hop duo Capone-N-Noreaga. The duo signed with Penalty Recordings in 1996 and released their critically and commercially successful debut album, ‘The War Report,’ in 1997, which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and featured charting singles ‘Illegal Life,’ ‘Closer,’ and ‘T.O.N.Y. (Top of New York)’ on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks chart. This early success established his presence in the hip-hop community.

Following Capone’s brief incarceration, N.O.R.E. embarked on a solo career, releasing his self-titled debut album, ‘N.O.R.E.’ (an acronym for ‘Niggas On The Run Eating’), on July 7, 1998. The album, featuring tracks produced by The Neptunes and Swizz Beatz, was a significant milestone, debuting at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and topping the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with 165,000 first-week sales. It quickly achieved Gold certification by the RIAA on September 15, 1998, for selling 500,000 copies, and featured the hit single ‘Superthug,’ which reached No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. He continued his solo career with ‘Melvin Flynt – Da Hustler’ in 1999, which also earned Gold certification, and ‘God’s Favorite’ in 2002, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single ‘Nothin”. From 2004, N.O.R.E. diversified his musical style, incorporating reggaeton and Spanish-language tracks, reflecting his Puerto Rican heritage. His 2006 album, ‘N.O.R.E. y la Familia…Ya Tú Sabe,’ included the major hit ‘Oye Mi Canto,’ which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In recent years, N.O.R.E. has expanded his career beyond music, gaining significant recognition as the co-host of the ‘Drink Champs’ talk show and podcast alongside DJ EFN. The podcast, which features celebrity interviews and discussion, has been described as ‘The Premier Hip Hop Interview Show’ and won ‘Best Hip Hop Platform’ at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. This venture has allowed N.O.R.E. to engage with a broad audience, discuss hip-hop culture, and collaborate with various brands. His journey demonstrates a notable career progression from a foundational hip-hop artist to a multifaceted media personality and entrepreneur.
