Naomi Ekperigin

Naomi Ekperigin was born in Harlem, New York. She attended the Dalton School and later graduated from Wesleyan University in 2005, where she began performing comedy and improv. After college, Ekperigin spent a year touring with the National Theatre for the Deaf before returning to New York in 2007 to pursue a stand-up career while working at an art magazine. A significant career turning point occurred in 2013 when the magazine she worked for folded, leading her to a writer’s assistant position for the Comedy Central sitcom, “Broad City.” She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a staff writer for the show’s second season and continuing through its third season.

Ekperigin’s work on “Broad City” led to a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for Television: Comedy Series in 2015, alongside the show’s writing staff. Her talent was recognized by Splitsider, which praised her “savvy, smart, funny and politically active” approach to comedy, while Essence magazine included her in their list of “8 Black Comediennes Who are ‘Ready’ for SNL.” In 2016, Comedy Central commissioned her for a half-hour special, taped in New Orleans, which premiered later that year. She also co-wrote a television pilot for Comedy Central with Jessica Williams, a former “Daily Show” correspondent. Her writing credits expanded to include “Difficult People” and “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell,” where she also made appearances.

Her career progression continued with a position on the writing staff of the NBC sitcom “Great News” from 2017 to 2018. Following this, she wrote for season 2 of CBS All Access’s “No Activity” and the HBO limited series “Mrs. Fletcher,” where she also served as a co-producer. Ekperigin holds a recurring role as Carol, the HR person, in the Apple TV+ series “Mythic Quest” (2020–2025), a role which was promoted to main cast in season 3. She also contributed as a writer and supervising producer for “Mythic Quest.” In 2024, she became a writer for Peacock’s “St. Denis Medical,” which has been renewed for a second season, and has notably lent her voice to animated series such as “Bob’s Burgers,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” “Tuca & Bertie,” and “Central Park.”
