Nat Faxon

Nathaniel Wales Faxon was born on October 11, 1975, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. He attended the Brookwood School, the Holderness School, and Hamilton College. In 2001, he began performing with The Groundlings, a renowned improvisational and sketch comedy troupe in Los Angeles, where he honed his comedic skills. His early career included roles in comedic films such as “Orange County” (2002), “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” (2007), and “Bad Teacher” (2011), establishing his presence in the industry.
Faxon achieved significant recognition for his work as a screenwriter, co-writing “The Descendants” (2011) with Jim Rash. Their screenplay earned them an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2012. This collaboration marked a turning point, leading them to co-write and co-direct their debut feature film, “The Way Way Back” (2013), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures for $10 million. Faxon’s career has also seen him star in television series like the Fox comedy “Ben and Kate” (2012–2013) and the FX comedy “Married” (2014–2015), as well as provide voice acting for numerous animated productions.
His voice acting credits include prominent roles such as Elfo in the Netflix animated series “Disenchantment” (2018–2023), Pickle in “Blaze and the Monster Machines” (2014–present), and Frog in “Frog and Toad” (2023–2024). Faxon has also directed episodes for TV shows like “Community” (2015) and co-directed the film “Downhill” (2020). Beyond his major projects, he has appeared in recurring roles on series such as “The Conners” (2020–2025) and “Loot” (2022–present), demonstrating a consistent and varied career across acting, writing, and directing.
