Natalia Maliszewska made history when she became the first Polish short track speed skater to finish on the podium in a World Cup event. Maliszewska finished second in the 500m to take silver at the World Cup event in Montreal, Canada and has since won gold in the same event at the European Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. She also started the new decade in excellent form after winning bronze at the 2020 ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Dordrecht. A former Olympian, she took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in the women’s 500m event.
Born in Białystok, Poland, Maliszewska began short track speed skating in 2007. She made her international debut in the 2012-13 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup and rose to prominence after winning a bronze medal in the 3000m relay event at the 2013 European Championships.
In 2018 she won the silver medal in the 5000m at the 2018 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, Canada and finished the 2018-19 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup season in style by becoming the 500m World Cup Champion and winning the general classification. Maliszewska is now focussing her training efforts on reaching her second Winter Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022, where she will be one to watch for a place on the medal podium.
