United States Nathaniel Hackett has a career spanning a multitude of coaching roles in both college and professional football, including offensive coordinator positions and a stint as a head coach in the NFL.
Nathaniel Hackett was hired as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, becoming the 18th head coach in the franchise's history. This was his first stint as a head coach in the NFL.

Nathaniel Hackett was born on December 19, 1979, in Fullerton, California. He began his football career as a player at UC Davis from 1999 to 2002, where he played as a linebacker and long snapper. His coaching career began in 2003 as an assistant linebackers coach for UC Davis. Hackett then moved to Stanford, serving as an offensive/defensive assistant from 2003 to 2004 and later as a specialists/recruiting coordinator in 2005. His entry into the NFL came in 2006 as an offensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a role he continued with the Buffalo Bills from 2008 to 2009. These early experiences established his foundation in various aspects of football coaching.
In 2010, Hackett transitioned to college football’s Syracuse Orange, initially as the passing game coordinator, quarterbacks, and tight ends coach, and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2011, serving there until 2012. He returned to the NFL in 2013 as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, overseeing their offense for two seasons. From 2015 to 2018, he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars, first as quarterbacks coach and then as offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2018, where he helped lead the team to the AFC Championship Game in 2017. His tenure with the Green Bay Packers from 2019 to 2021 as offensive coordinator saw the team achieve the league’s top scoring offense in 2020, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers winning back-to-back MVP awards in 2020 and 2021.
Hackett’s career progression led him to the head coaching position for the Denver Broncos in 2022. After a 4-11 record, he was fired during his inaugural season. In 2023, he joined the New York Jets as their offensive coordinator. Following a challenging start to the 2024 season, he was stripped of play-calling duties and later departed the organization. In July 2025, Hackett rejoined the Green Bay Packers as a defensive analyst, bringing his offensive perspective to the defensive side of the team. This marked his second stint with the Packers in a different capacity.
