Neelam Kothari

Neelam Kothari Soni, known professionally as Neelam, was born on November 9, 1969, in Hong Kong, into a business-oriented family with a traditional jewellery-making background. She spent her early years in Hong Kong and later moved to Bangkok with her family. While on vacation in Mumbai, she was approached by director Ramesh Behl, leading to her acting debut in the 1984 film “Jawaani.” Although her debut was not a commercial blockbuster, her performance garnered attention, resulting in numerous film offers. She gained significant popularity through her roles, often paired with actor Govinda, in fourteen films including “Ilzaam” (1986), “Love 86” (1986), “Khudgarz” (1987), “Hatya” (1988), and “Taaqatwar” (1989). She also established a popular on-screen partnership with Chunky Pandey, starring in films such as “Aag Hi Aag” (1987), “Paap Ki Duniya” (1988), and “Khatron Ke Khiladi” (1988), and featured in Bengali and Marathi cinema including “Mandira” (1990), “Badnam” (1990), and “Doodh Ka Karz” (1990). Her acting career included roles in significant films like “Agneepath” (1990) as Amitabh Bachchan’s sister, and impactful appearances in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998) as a VJ and “Hum Saath-Saath Hain” (1999) as Salman Khan’s sister, for which she received a Zee Cine Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Following her acting career, Neelam Kothari pursued her intrinsic interest in jewellery design, a family business. She completed a formal jewellery-designing course in Mumbai and launched her brand, Neelam Jewels, in 2001, opening a showroom in Mumbai in 2004, and later expanding as Neelam Kothari Fine Jewels in 2011. Her design work has since garnered several accolades, including the Blackswan Award for Women’s Empowerment, Most Promising Jeweller of the year, and the Global Spa Fit and Fab Jeweller Award, all in 2019. In recent years, she returned to the spotlight with the Netflix reality series “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives” (2020–present), alongside Maheep Kapoor, Bhavna Pandey, and Seema Sajdeh, which significantly boosted her jewellery and interior design businesses. In 2022, she further diversified her creative endeavors by collaborating with The BNK Group for luxury residential interior design.

Her career path showcases adaptability and a commitment to her passions, moving from a successful acting tenure to establishing herself as a respected entrepreneur in the design world. Her journey is marked by significant film roles and impactful business ventures.
