Nicholas James Vujicic was born in Melbourne, Australia, on December 4, 1982, to Serbian immigrant parents. He was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare condition characterized by the absence of all four limbs. Growing up, Vujicic faced significant challenges, including bullying at school due to his physical condition. Despite these early difficulties, he learned to navigate his environment using a small foot with two toes, which he refers to as his “chicken drumstick.” This limb allows him to perform various tasks such as walking, writing, typing, swimming, surfing, and skateboarding. At 17, he began delivering inspirational talks at school and church events, marking the beginning of his public speaking career. He pursued higher education, graduating from Griffith University at 21 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, double majoring in accountancy and financial planning.
Following his move to the USA, Vujicic expanded his outreach, co-founding multiple non-profit organizations, including Life Without Limbs and Unbound Warrior. His commitment to spreading his message led him to star in the 2009 short film, ‘The Butterfly Circus,’ for which he received the Best Actor in a Short Film award at the 2010 Method Fest Independent Film Festival. In 2010, he published his first book, ‘Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life,’ which has been translated into 30 languages. Vujicic is also a vocal anti-bullying advocate, collaborating with education departments of various governments worldwide to speak to students. He co-founded ProLife Bank in 2021 as part of his advocacy against abortion. In 2022, he launched “Champions for the Brokenhearted,” a ministry initiative dedicated to supporting particular disaffected groups.
Through his global ministry, NickV Ministries, Vujicic aims to share the Gospel with one billion more people by 2028. Since 2005, his ministry has reached over 733 million people, resulting in over one million individuals following Christ. His work encompasses various programs, including student ministry, prison ministry, prayer ministry, and live outreach events such as the 6,500-seat Big Jesus Tent. He has authored several other books, including ‘Your Life Without Limits’ (2012), ‘Unstoppable: The Incredible Power of Faith in Action’ (2013), and ‘Love Without Limits’ (2016). Vujicic married Kanae Miyahara in 2012, and they have four children together, residing in Collin County, Texas.
