Justin Willman Chambers is an actor and former model from the United States. Since 2005, he has starred as Dr. Alex Karev in the ABC television drama Grey’s Anatomy. He was born in Ohio and attended Southeastern High School in South Charleston before studying acting at the HB Studio in New York. After being approached by a modelling scout in Paris, Chambers started modelling. Chambers began his acting career with a recurring role on the soap opera Another World, and his feature film debut was in the 1999 comedy drama Liberty Heights, in which he played a supporting role. In 2005, he was cast as Dr. Alex Karev in the ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which was his breakout role. Chambers’ character became one of the most successful from the hit series, winning numerous awards and the 2017 People’s Choice Award for Best TV Network Drama Actor, as well as nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award. He was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2006, along with other cast members.
Chambers also appeared as a guest star on Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice in 2009 for a Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice crossover series. Chambers announced his departure from Grey’s Anatomy on January 10, 2020, stating that his final episode had aired on November 14, 2019, with a farewell episode airing on March 5, 2020.
