Nicholas Alexander Taylor was born on April 14, 1988, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and moved to Abbotsford, British Columbia, at age three. He began golfing at Ledgeview Golf and Country Club at age 10. His amateur career was marked by early success, including winning the 2007 Canadian Amateur Championship at 19 and reaching the quarter-finals of the 2007 U.S. Amateur. He was a two-time All-American and Pac-10 Golfer of the Year while attending the University of Washington, where he earned a degree in economics. Taylor also holds the record for the lowest amateur round in U.S. Open history, carding a 65 in the second round of the 2009 U.S. Open, where he finished as the low amateur.

Taylor turned professional in late 2010. He competed on the PGA Tour Canada from 2011 to 2013 and subsequently on the Web.com Tour before earning his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season. His first PGA Tour victory came in November 2014 at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He secured his second PGA Tour win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February 2020. Taylor’s career progression highlights include his historic victory at the RBC Canadian Open in June 2023, where he became the first Canadian to win the national open since 1954, and his subsequent wins at the WM Phoenix Open in 2024 and the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2025.

Throughout his professional journey, Taylor has demonstrated consistent performance, marked by strategic play and resilience. He has accumulated five PGA Tour victories and one Gateway Tour win. His awards include the Mark H. McCormack Medal in 2009 as the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and the Ben Hogan Award in 2010 as the best college golfer in the United States. His career has also involved team appearances, representing Canada in events like the 2008 Eisenhower Trophy and the 2018 World Cup of Golf.
