Nicole Schmidhofer, born on March 15, 1989, in Friesach, Carinthia, Austria, began her professional alpine ski racing career with her World Cup debut in March 2007 at the age of 18. Initially, she demonstrated potential with a 14th-place finish in the Super-G in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. For several years, Schmidhofer consistently placed in the top 15 in many competitions, but it was in 2013 that she first achieved a World Cup podium finish in Super-G, signaling a turning point in her career trajectory.
Her career highlights include winning a gold medal in the Super-G at the 2017 World Championships. The 2018/19 World Cup season marked a period of notable consistency and success for Schmidhofer, securing three victories and three additional podium placements. During this season, she triumphed in two Downhill races in Lake Louise, her first career wins in this discipline. She also earned second-place finishes in the Val Gardena Super-G, Cortina Downhill, and Crans-Montana Downhill, followed by another victory in Garmisch. Her performance led to her winning the Downhill season title and finishing as runner-up in the Super-G discipline standings.
Schmidhofer retired from alpine ski racing after the 2023 World Cup season. Beyond her alpine skiing achievements, she demonstrated her versatility by participating in the speed skiing world championships in Vars, France, in March 2019. Despite being a newcomer to the discipline, she achieved a new Austrian national record with a speed of 217.590 km/h, finishing fourth overall. This performance highlighted her ability to adapt and excel across different skiing disciplines, adding to her distinguished career in competitive snow sports.
