Legend of the game – Nigel Clough, is an English professional football manager and former player. In his playing days, he mainly performed as a forward. His most successful stint came at Nottingham Forest, where he played over 400 games in league, cup and European competitions in two separate spells, mostly under the managership of his iconic father Brian Clough. He scored 131 goals throughout his career, making him the second highest scorer in Nottingham Forest’s history. At the club, he won the Football League Cup and Full Members’ Cup twice. Away from Forest, Clough donned the shirts of other major clubs such as Liverpool, Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City. Additionally, Clough was capped by England 14 times.
Clough has also experienced success as a manager. So far, one of his managerial highlights is being appointed as manager of Sheffield United in 2013, lifting them out of the relegation zone and taking them to FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals. Clough went on to return to Burton Albion for a second spell as manager in 2015. Spectacularly, he led them to promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club’s history in 2016 and the League Cup semi-final in January 2019, cementing himself as a Burton Albion legend.
In 2020, Clough signed to manage the Stags – Mansfield Town. His glittering player career and vast experience in management has meant that Clough has become an icon in English football, and he will continue to exceed expectations in the game.
