Nikola Vucevic

Nikola Vucevic was born on October 24, 1990, in Morges, Switzerland, while his father, a professional basketball player, was competing there. Primarily raised in Belgium, his family later moved to Bar, Montenegro, in 2003, seeking better basketball development opportunities for young Nikola. He began training within KK Mornar’s youth system. In 2006, at the age of fifteen, Vucevic and his father survived the Bioče derailment, a train crash in Montenegro that resulted in many casualties. In 2007, he was honored as Montenegro’s Best Young Player, recognizing his early athletic promise.

Vucevic moved to Simi Valley, California, in 2007 to attend Stoneridge Prep for his senior high school year. Despite a language barrier, he excelled, leading his team in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. Following high school, he attended the University of Southern California (USC), playing three seasons for the Trojans. During his junior year, he averaged 17.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, earning Fourth Team All-America by Fox Sports and First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. He declared for the NBA draft after his junior year.

Drafted 16th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2011 NBA draft, Vucevic spent his rookie season with the team before being traded to the Orlando Magic in 2012. Over nine seasons with the Magic, he became a central figure, earning two NBA All-Star selections in 2019 and 2021. He holds significant franchise records with the Magic, ranking first in all-time field goals made (4,490), second in rebounds (6,381), and third in points scored (10,423). In 2021, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he continues to be a key player, contributing with consistent scoring and rebounding performances, and reaching a career milestone in 2025 by becoming the 44th player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career rebounds.
