Nina Brunner, born on October 14, 1995, in Baar, Switzerland, embarked on her volleyball career playing indoor volleyball at VBC Steinhausen alongside Nicole Eiholzer. Their partnership soon extended to beach volleyball under the guidance of coach Kurt Brunner. This collaboration proved highly successful, with the duo dominating the Swiss Junior Championships across various categories, securing titles in U15 (2008, 2009), U18 (2010), and U21 (2011, 2012, 2013). Her early career was marked by significant international achievements, including becoming the youngest U21 World Champion in 2011 at 15 years and 10 months, partnering with Joana Heidrich. She further solidified her talent by winning a second U21 World Championship in 2012 with Anouk Vergé-Dépré, demonstrating her adaptability and skill with different partners.
Brunner’s career progression saw her achieve a double European junior championship in 2013, winning both U20 and U22 titles. She continued to excel on the national circuit, securing multiple Coop Beachtour victories and her first national championship medal in 2015. A pivotal turning point occurred in 2016 when she partnered with Tanja Hüberli, leading to their first FIVB World Tour podium finish in Klagenfurt. This partnership blossomed, contributing to multiple World Tour medals, two European Championship gold medals in 2021 and 2023, and a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their consistent performance led to a career-high World ranking of No. 2 in November 2021 and recognition as CEV Beach Volleyball Team of the Year in 2022. Nina Brunner’s dedication to the sport is matched by her pursuit of a psychology degree through distance education, aiming to work with children in the future.
