Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the world of badminton. Not too long ago he was a young kid competing at junior level, and he has since emerged as Indian badminton’s poster boy winning medals at the highest level and beating the biggest legends of the sport. Sen made the world sit up and notice in 2021 as he began reaching the podium consistently and started to surprise higher-ranked opponents on a regular basis. After claiming the bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships and finishing runner-up at the All England open in 2022, he clinched the gold medal in Birmingham at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the men’s singles event and helped the Indian team win the Thomas Cup 2022.
Born in Almora, Uttarakhand, Sen trained at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy and has been an impressive player since the early stages of his career. The badminton prodigy first tasted glory when he won the Swiss Junior International in 2014, and two years later he had a breakout year with a string of fantastic performances in the junior badminton circuit. The rising shuttler has continued to win a plethora of medals and trophies ever since, becoming the No 6th ranked player in the world in November 2022. Still only in his early twenties, there is undoubtedly much more to come from this exciting young prospect.
