About

Noah Wyle was born in Hollywood, California, on June 4, 1971, to Marjorie (Speer), an orthopedic head nurse, and Stephen Wyle, an entrepreneur and electrical engineer. He developed an early interest in acting, participating in high school productions and later attending a Northwestern University theater program. Wyle’s acting career began with small parts, including his first credited role at age 17 in “Blind Faith” (1990). After appearing in films like “Crooked Hearts” (1991), “Swing Kids” (1993), and most notably, “A Few Good Men” (1992), he experienced a dry spell. His turning point came with the script for “ER,” which he initially hesitated to commit to due to its five-year contract. However, after three auditions, he landed the role of Dr. John Carter.

His portrayal of Dr. John Carter on the NBC medical drama “ER” (1994–2009) established him as a household name. Wyle’s character evolved from a medical student to a seasoned doctor, and his nuanced performance earned him five consecutive Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe Award nominations. He holds the record for playing a doctor longer than anyone else in a primetime medical series. During his tenure on “ER,” Wyle also pursued film roles, impersonating Steve Jobs in TNT’s “Pirates of Silicon Valley” (1999) and appearing in films like “Donnie Darko” (2001) and “Enough” (2002). After leaving “ER” in its eleventh season, he returned for guest appearances in later seasons, accumulating 254 episodes, more than any other major cast member.

Following “ER,” Wyle continued his career as Flynn Carsen in “The Librarian” franchise (2004, 2006, 2008), which later expanded into a TV series (2014–2018), where he also took on roles as a writer, director, and executive producer. He starred as Tom Mason in the sci-fi series “Falling Skies” (2011–2015) and received critical acclaim and a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for his role as Daniel Calder in “The Red Line” (2019). His career saw a resurgence with the HBO Max medical drama “The Pitt” (2025–present), where he stars as Dr. Michael Robinavitch and serves as an executive producer and writer. His work on “The Pitt” earned him two Emmy Awards in 2025: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series as an executive producer. He currently appears in the Prime Video dramedy “Leverage: Redemption” (2021–present), further cementing his diverse and ongoing career.
