Noel Fielding

Noel Fielding was born on May 21, 1973, in Westminster, London, to Dianne and Ray Fielding. He has a French grandmother and a younger paternal half-brother, Michael Fielding. Unbaptized and without a middle name, he does not follow any specific religion. He pursued education at Croydon Art College and Buckingham Chilterns University College, where he earned a BA in graphic design and advertising in 1995. During his time at art college and in shared student housing, he collaborated with future colleagues Dave Brown and Nigel Coan, setting the stage for his creative career.

Fielding embarked on his comedy journey after graduating in 1995. A pivotal moment occurred in 1997 when he met Julian Barratt at a comedy event in North London, leading to the formation of the highly successful comedy troupe, The Mighty Boosh. Their Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut in 1998 earned them the Perrier Award for Best Newcomer. The troupe expanded their stage shows with ‘Arctic Boosh’ in 1999 and ‘Autoboosh’ in 2000. In 2001, ‘The Mighty Boosh’ transitioned to radio with a six-part show on BBC London Live, later moving to BBC Radio 4. This success paved the way for a television series on BBC Three from 2004 to 2007, which garnered a significant cult following and multiple awards. Later, Fielding branched out to create and star in his own solo series, ‘Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy,’ for Channel 4 from 2012 to 2014, showcasing his distinctive surreal humor. Since 2017, he has co-hosted ‘The Great British Bake Off,’ further expanding his public profile. His artistic endeavors include multiple exhibitions, demonstrating a diverse creative output beyond comedy.

Throughout his career, Fielding has also made numerous appearances in various television programs. He held recurring roles in Channel 4’s ‘Nathan Barley,’ ‘The IT Crowd,’ and ‘Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.’ He was a regular team captain on BBC Two’s ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ from 2009 to 2015, and again since 2021. He has been a frequent guest on ‘The Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ and ‘QI.’ In music, he co-founded the band Loose Tapestries with Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian in 2012, providing music for ‘Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy.’ His visual arts career is marked by several exhibitions, including ‘Psychedelic Dreams of the Jelly Fox’ (2007) and ‘Bryan Ferry vs the Jelly Fox’ (2010), and he received an honorary master’s degree from Buckinghamshire New University in 2011 for his contributions to the arts. In 2024, he took on the lead role of Dick Turpin in ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’ for Apple TV+.
