Norman Reedus

Norman Mark Reedus was born on January 6, 1969, in Hollywood, Florida. He spent a portion of his youth living in Japan with his mother. Reedus’s career began without formal acting training; he worked at a Harley-Davidson shop in Venice, Los Angeles, and contributed artwork to various shows. His entry into acting occurred after being discovered at a party, leading to his first stage role in the play ‘Maps for Drowners’ at the Tiffany Theater on Sunset Boulevard. He is of Italian, English, Scottish, and Irish descent, and his family includes his parents, Marianne (a teacher and former Playboy bunny) and Ira Norman Reedus, and a sister, Leslie. These early experiences provided a diverse foundation for his creative pursuits in different artistic mediums.

Reedus made his film debut as Jeremy in Guillermo del Toro’s horror thriller “Mimic” (1997). This marked the beginning of his acting career, which saw him take on various roles in films like “Floating” (1997), “Six Ways to Sunday” (1997), and “Gossip” (2000). A significant turning point in his film career was his portrayal of Murphy MacManus in “The Boondock Saints” (1999), a role he later reprised in the sequel “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day” (2009). His filmography also includes “Blade II” (2002) and “American Gangster” (2007).

His career significantly expanded into television and other media in 2010 when he was cast as Daryl Dixon in AMC’s highly successful series “The Walking Dead.” The character of Daryl Dixon was specifically created for Reedus, gaining substantial popularity and becoming a central figure in the show. Beyond acting, Reedus is an accomplished photographer with several published books and has exhibited his art in galleries globally. He also launched a production company, Bigbaldhead, Inc., with a first-look deal with AMC Studios, and released his debut novel, “The Ravaged,” in 2022, which became a New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestseller. He hosts the AMC travel series “Ride with Norman Reedus” (2016–present) and has lent his voice and likeness to several video games, including “Death Stranding” (2019) and its upcoming sequel.
