Born on November 5, 1992, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Odell Cornelious Beckham Jr. showed athletic prowess early in life. He attended Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was a multi-sport letterman in football, basketball, and track. In high school football, he excelled as a wide receiver, quarterback, running back, and cornerback. As a junior, he recorded 45 receptions for 743 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with three rushing scores. His senior year was even more impressive, with 50 catches for 1,010 yards and 19 touchdowns, making him one of only two players in school history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. His diverse skill set also included 331 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 90 passing yards, and an average of 30.0 yards per punt return, earning him District 9-2A Offensive MVP honors.
Beckham continued his collegiate football career at Louisiana State University (LSU), where he quickly became a standout player. As a true freshman in 2011, he started nine of 14 games, finishing second on the team with 41 receptions and 475 yards, contributing to LSU’s appearance in the BCS National Championship. His sophomore year, 2012, saw him record his first collegiate punt return touchdown and his first 100-yard receiving game. In 2013, he formed a highly productive duo with Jarvis Landry, earning the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile player in major college football. That season, he finished with 57 receptions for 1,117 yards and eight touchdowns, and led the SEC with 32 kickoff returns for 845 net yards. After his junior year, Beckham declared for the 2014 NFL Draft.
Selected 12th overall by the New York Giants, Beckham made an immediate impact, despite missing the first four games of his rookie season due to injury. He quickly became known for his spectacular one-handed catches, particularly one against the Dallas Cowboys that was widely acclaimed as one of the greatest catches ever. He set numerous NFL rookie records, including the most average receiving yards per game (108.8) and became the first player to record over 75 receptions, 1,100 yards, and ten touchdowns in a rookie season. His exceptional performance earned him the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. Throughout his career, Beckham has been a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time Second-team All-Pro. He achieved a significant milestone by winning Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. More recently, he had stints with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and the Miami Dolphins in 2024, where he continued to demonstrate his talent, though his time with the Dolphins concluded with a mutual agreement to waive him in December 2024.
