Oleh Petrovych Omelchuk was born on June 7, 1983, in Velyki Selyshcha, Rivne Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. His early career saw him compete in junior categories, including the 2002 World Championships in Lahti, where he placed 9th in both 50m Pistol Men Junior and 10m Air Pistol Men Junior. By 2008, Omelchuk was representing Ukraine at the Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he demonstrated his skill by finishing 4th in the 50m Pistol Men event and 16th in the 10m Air Pistol Men category.
Throughout his career, Omelchuk has accumulated a significant number of medals and notable achievements. He secured his first World Cup gold medal in 2007 in Bangkok for the 50m Pistol Men event, followed by another in the same event in Rio de Janeiro in 2008. His success continued with a victory at the 2008 World Cup Final in Bangkok, where he won gold in the 10m Air Pistol Men. Omelchuk is a four-time Olympian, having competed in Beijing (2008), London (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2016), and Tokyo (2020/2021). A career highlight came at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where he earned a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event alongside Olena Kostevych.
