Born in Grasse, France, in 1955, Olivier Cresp was immersed in the world of perfumery from a young age. His family, tracing its lineage in Grasse back to the seventeenth century, had a long history in the perfume industry; his great-grandfather cultivated roses and jasmine, and his grandfather traded natural ingredients. This upbringing provided Cresp with an early and deep understanding of essential scents and their delicate qualities. Many evenings of his childhood were spent with his family interpreting the fresh blooms gathered that day, contributing to an early formation of his olfactive memory.
Cresp began his professional journey as a perfumer in 1975, eventually joining Firmenich in 1992. His career progression saw him named Master Perfumer in 2006 and Perfumer of the Year in 2007. In 2012, he was honored with the title Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, recognizing his contributions to the arts. He is known for a minimalist and authentic style, prioritizing a single, powerful concept each year. Living in Paris, Cresp also mentors new talent, promoting the art and craft of perfumery. His son, Sebastien, and daughter, Anaïs, have also followed in his footsteps within the fragrance industry.
Throughout his career, Cresp has developed a wide range of fragrances for leading brands. He also co-founded Akro, a niche fragrance brand, with his daughter Anaïs and her partner.
