Ophira Eisenberg

Ophira Eisenberg was born in 1972 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She later moved to New York City in 2001, where she developed her career as a comedian, writer, and actress. In April 2021, she became a naturalized American citizen. Her early career saw her performing stand-up comedy and storytelling, quickly gaining recognition in various New York City venues. Eisenberg’s contributions to comedy were highlighted in features like the New York Times’ “Telling Tales With a Tear and a Smile” and New York magazine’s “Ten New Comedians That Funny People Find Funny.” Her unique blend of humor and personal narrative has earned her a dedicated following and critical acclaim.

Eisenberg’s career progressed significantly with her role as the host of the nationally syndicated NPR and WNYC trivia, puzzle, and game show “Ask Me Another,” alongside musician Jonathan Coulton. During her tenure, the show gained popularity for its engaging format and Eisenberg’s witty hosting style. She also made appearances on television shows such as the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in 2013, Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” “Fresh Faces of Comedy,” VH-1’s “Best Week Ever,” and “All Access.” Her acting credits include “The Overlookers,” Showtime’s “Queer as Folk,” and CBS’s “The Guardian.” She was also involved in the original Toronto Fringe production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” in 1999, which later became a Tony Award-winning Broadway show.

Beyond her performance work, Eisenberg is also an accomplished writer. Her debut memoir, “Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy,” was published on April 2, 2013. She has also contributed to several anthology books, including “I Killed: True Stories of the Road from America’s Top Comics,” “Rejected: Tales of the Failed, Dumped, and Canceled,” and “Heeb Magazine’s Sex, Drugs and Gefilte Fish.” Eisenberg frequently hosts and tours with “The Moth,” a renowned storytelling show, where her performances are consistently popular, leading to her being featured on one of their Audience Favorites CDs. She is also a breast cancer survivor, a personal journey that sometimes informs her storytelling.
