Gary Delaney

Gary Delaney was born on April 16, 1973. He pursued academic studies, earning a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, initially aspiring to a career as a bond trader. Before entering comedy, Delaney held positions fixing photocopiers, working in banks, and performing custodian duties at garages. His early career also included serving as a sabbatical officer at the LSE’s Students’ Union. These diverse experiences preceded his entry into the comedy scene, where he developed a reputation for his precise and witty one-liners.

Delaney’s comedy career gained momentum with various writing and performing roles. He wrote for the Birmingham-based FM radio station Kerrang! 105.2 and appeared in the horror-comedy film *Trash House*. In 2003, he toured the UK as a supporting act for Jerry Sadowitz, performing at notable venues such as Manchester University and Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London. His Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, *Purist*, received positive critical attention, including four-star reviews from comedy website Chortle and *The Independent* newspaper. In 2010, Delaney achieved significant recognition when two of his jokes were featured in the top ten of the third annual Dave Award for the Funniest Joke Of The Fringe, marking him as the first comedian to have multiple entries in the top ten.

His profile increased through numerous appearances on television programs such as *Mock the Week* and Dave’s *One Night Stand*. Following these appearances, Delaney toured *Purist* in 2013. He has also been a prolific writer for various television and radio shows, including *8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown*, *The Sarah Millican Television Programme*, and *Stand Up For The Week*. Delaney has consistently performed at comedy festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and has undertaken multiple national tours with his stand-up shows, showcasing his consistent presence and growth in the comedy industry. He married fellow comedian Sarah Millican in December 2013.
