Masour Ousmane Dembélé was born on May 15, 1997, in Vernon, Eure, France. He began his youth career playing for Madeleine Évreux from 2004–2009, then Évreux from 2009–2010. He joined Rennes’ youth academy in 2010, progressing to their reserve team by 2014, where he scored 13 goals in 22 appearances across the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons. His professional debut for Rennes’ first team in Ligue 1 occurred on November 6, 2015, and he quickly made an impact, scoring his first Ligue 1 goal later that month against Bordeaux. In March 2016, Dembélé achieved his first Ligue 1 hat-trick in a 4–1 victory over Nantes. He concluded his debut senior season with Rennes, scoring 12 goals in 26 league matches, earning him the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award.
Dembélé’s career saw a significant move in 2016 when he signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund. In his single season with the German club, he helped them win the DFB-Pokal in 2016-17, scoring a crucial goal in the semi-final against Bayern Munich and being named man of the match in the final. After this successful period, he transferred to Barcelona in 2017 for an initial fee of €105 million.
