Palak Kohli’s journey into para-badminton began with a chance encounter that changed her life. At just 18, she became India’s first athlete to qualify for three categories in the Tokyo Paralympics, a feat that speaks volumes about her determination and resilience. Growing up in Jalandhar, Palak faced societal skepticism about her abilities due to her disability. Yet, she transformed those doubts into fuel for her ambition. “Fearing is not a solution,” she often says, embodying the spirit of a fighter who embraces challenges rather than shying away from them.
Under the guidance of Coach Gaurav Khanna, Palak honed her skills at India’s first professional para-badminton academy. Her dedication paid off when she reached the finals of the Dubai Para-Badminton International in 2021, showcasing her talent on an international stage. Competing in the women’s singles SU5, mixed doubles SL3-SU5, and women’s doubles SL3-SU5, she not only made history but also inspired countless others to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.
Palak’s story is not just about sports; it’s about breaking barriers and changing perceptions. She believes in the power of representation, hoping to inspire young athletes and girls across India. As she prepares for the Paralympics, her focus remains unwavering: to give her best and to prove that limitations exist only in the mind. With nearly 50 million people watching, Palak is ready to make her mark, not just as an athlete but as a beacon of hope for many.
