This early exposure to Capitol Hill, combined with diverse work experiences including a stint as an Oscar Mayer Hotdogger and a marketing consultant for his family’s construction business, laid the groundwork for his future in public service.
Ryan’s political career advanced rapidly. After serving as a legislative aide and speechwriter for Empower America and later for Jack Kemp, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998, representing Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district. He consistently won re-election, serving for two decades. During his tenure, he chaired the House Budget Committee from 2011 to 2015, and briefly led the House Ways and Means Committee in 2015. A significant career milestone occurred in 2012 when he was selected as the Republican vice presidential nominee, running alongside Mitt Romney. Although the ticket was unsuccessful, Ryan maintained his congressional seat and high profile.
In 2015, Ryan ascended to one of the most powerful positions in American politics, becoming the 54th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
