About

Born in 1970 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Paula Malcomson established herself in the acting world with early roles in the 1990s. Her career began with smaller parts in films such as “Tombstone” (1993), gaining more significant recognition in critically acclaimed productions like the Oscar-nominated film “The Green Mile” (1999) and Steven Spielberg’s “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” (2001). Her early work set the foundation for a versatile career, showcasing her ability to portray diverse characters across various genres. Her performance as Trixie in HBO’s “Deadwood” (2004–2006) marked a significant milestone, where she appeared in all three seasons of the highly acclaimed series.

Malcomson continued to build a strong presence in television, securing recurring roles and guest appearances in a number of high-profile series. She worked with “Deadwood” creator David Milch again on “John from Cincinnati” (HBO, 2007) and had multi-episode arcs in popular shows such as “ER” (2006–2007), “Lost” (2006), “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2008–2019), and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2009). Her early 2010s saw her take on regular roles in “Caprica” (2009–2010), a “Battlestar Galactica” spin-off, and “Sons of Anarchy” (2010). A major turning point in her film career was being cast as Mrs. Everdeen, Katniss Everdeen’s mother, in “The Hunger Games” (2012) film series. She reprised this role in subsequent installments, including “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (2013), “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” (2014), and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” (2015).

From 2013 to 2017, Malcomson starred as Abby Donovan, the wife of the titular character, in the Showtime crime drama “Ray Donovan,” appearing in 60 episodes. Her career since then has included notable roles in limited series like “Come Home” (2018) and “Watchmen” (2019), and the lead role in “Redemption” (2022). She also returned to her iconic role as Trixie in “Deadwood: The Movie” (2019). More recently, she has appeared in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” (2023), “Parish” (2024), and “Mayor of Kingstown” (2024), demonstrating her continued presence in significant television projects. Her upcoming work includes “Death by Lightning” (2025) and “The Good Daughter.”
