Barber was born in Toronto, Canada and competed in the most competitive youth league on the planet, the Greater Toronto Hockey League for the North York Knights. He was a competitive youth player, but with aspirations of playing in the Olympics at 17 years of age he picked up a field hockey stick for the first time, and by the age of 21, he was breaking into Team Canada. Four years later, he realised his talents for coaching. His stickhandling is renowned throughout the NHL, and today he finds himself coaching NHL All-Stars and youth players in stickhandling skills.
Barber is an all-round sportsman and regularly participates in baseball, tennis, and ball hockey. He recommends a multisport approach to all youth players to increase athleticism and prevent injury. Barber has worked with top young talent and seasoned NHL players, like Jonathan Toews and Jake Virtanen.
His YouTube videos often capture him performing shooting dangles and competitions which has earned him massive respect within the sport. His social media popularity earned him a spot working with EA Sports on NHL ’21 performing dirty dangles in a sensor suit. Barber has coached and played in China, Thailand, and Japan. He currently lives in Vancouver, BC where he trains teams, and hosts youth ice hockey camps.
