The commanding Peter Walton is a former professional football referee, who primarily officiated in the Premier League from 2003 to 2012. During a professional career, which spanned nearly 20 years, he officiated at a number of notable matches, including the FA Cup final, Euro’ 96, the Football League Trophy, and the FA Community Shield.
Born and raised in Long Buckby, Walton began his career in football playing for his local team. He started refereeing in 1986 in local leagues and was then appointed to the assistant referees lists of the Football League in 1993. A year later he was added to the Premier League list, and in 1996 he became a FIFA assistant referee. In 1998 he was promoted to the Football League list of referees, and in 2003 he was added to the Select Group of referees, making his Premier League debut in October that year. He officiated his final game in 2012, and then took up a new role as the General Manager of the Professional Referee Organisation for the Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada. He later joined the team at BT Sport, working as a referee analyst, and also appears on ESPN FC in the United States.
