Phillip Evans

Phillip Mathew Evans, born on September 10, 1992, in Whittier, CA, embarked on his professional baseball career after being drafted by the New York Mets in the 15th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, foregoing his commitment to San Diego State University. His early career saw him progress through the Mets’ minor league system, with notable stints including the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2012 and the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2013. A turning point arrived in 2016 when he led the Eastern League in batting average while playing for the Binghamton Mets, showcasing his offensive capabilities with a .335 average, 30 doubles, and eight home runs in 96 games.

Evans made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with the New York Mets on September 8, 2017, and recorded his first MLB hit the following day. He continued to gain MLB experience with the Mets into 2018. Following his time with the Mets, he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs in 2018, spending the 2019 season with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, where he batted .283 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI. In his ongoing career, Evans has also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2020-2021) and has accumulated significant experience in Triple-A, including earning Pacific Coast League Player of the Month honors in April 2023 with the Reno Aces.

Throughout his career, Evans has demonstrated adaptability across various infield positions and has been recognized for his consistent performance at the plate. After electing free agency in 2023, he signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves in December 2023 and later joined the Toros de Tijuana and Bravos de León in the Mexican League in 2024 and 2025 respectively. His journey reflects a career marked by perseverance and a consistent presence in professional baseball, including representing the Mexico national baseball team in international competitions such as the 2019 WBSC Premier12, where the team earned a bronze medal.
