About

Marion H. Hall, Jr., known professionally as Pooch Hall, was born on February 8, 1976, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Prior to his acting career, Hall engaged in sports, playing football, running track, and boxing; he won the Southern New England Golden Gloves in 1994. His pursuit of acting began at the age of 21, initially appearing in commercials before transitioning to film roles. His debut film appearance was as Derrick, a shoplifter, in the 2001 film ‘Lift’, followed by a role in ‘Blue Hill Avenue’ the same year. He maintained an active presence in film, appearing in ‘Black Cloud’ in 2004, a film written and directed by Rick Schroder. Hall also took on the role of Ty’ree Bailey in the 2005 mini-series ‘Miracle’s Boys’.

Hall’s career progressed with notable television roles, most prominently as Derwin Davis, a football player, in the sitcom ‘The Game’, which he starred in from 2006 to 2015. During this period, he also had a recurring role in the CBS sitcom ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ during its 2009–2010 season. A significant turning point in his career was securing the role of Daryll Donovan in the Showtime drama ‘Ray Donovan’, a character he portrayed from 2013 to 2020. This role allowed him to showcase his acting capabilities in a more dramatic context. He returned to his role as Derwin Davis for guest appearances in the sixth and ninth seasons of ‘The Game’.

Beyond television series, Hall has participated in various film projects, including ‘Jumping the Broom’ in 2011, where he played Ricky. In 2016, he portrayed Muhammad Ali in the sports biography film ‘Chuck’. He also appeared in ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ in 2017 and ‘Cherry’ in 2021. His recent work includes the TV movie ‘Ray Donovan: The Movie’ in 2022 and roles in recent television series such as ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ in 2022 and ‘The Family Business: New Orleans’, slated for 2025.
